AND THEN YOU WERE GONE

Sookyeong Jeong & Sebastian Quast

17.10.2025 - 05.12.2025

The exhibition brings together works by Sookyeong Jeong and Sebastian Quast and poses the question of what remains of a moment once it has passed.

Jeong’s painting turns inward: rooms, windows, light. The window marks the threshold between inside and outside; light registers moods shaped by seasons, weather, and everyday situations. Through overlapping layers of three to four colours and countless horizontal and vertical brushstrokes, a diary-like inner atmosphere emerges—quiet, precise, resonant.

Quast’s Wendepailletenbilder (reversible sequin works) use sublimation prints on flip sequins. The surface responds to touch, angle, and light: images appear, tilt, and vanish. It explores the image beyond the surface. Sometimes we go behind the surface and explore the unknown. What lies behind the sequins? It is about a shift in gaze. With this guiding idea, Quast also created three ceramic works of ducks disappearing into water—only the upturned rumps remain visible—again directing the gaze beneath the surface.

Together, the two positions unfold a poetics of presence and trace: memory as sediment and disappearance—the very interval named by the title: And then you were gone.
